This Year’s Top 10 Fun Dental Facts
- The average American spends 38.5 total days brushing their teeth over a lifetime.
- People who drink 3 or more glasses of soda daily have 62% more tooth decay, fillings, and tooth loss than others. So who is ready for a glass of water?
- On average, women smile 62 times a day, and men only eight times a day. Step it up, guys!
- If you’re right-handed, you will chew your food on your right side. If you’re left-handed, you will tend to chew your food on your left side. Bet you are going to test it.
- Only 40 percent of young people aged six to 19 have had cavities in their life. That’s down from 50 percent a decade ago!
- In the middle ages, people thought that a dog’s tooth boiled in wine made an excellent mouth rinse to prevent tooth decay. Tasty!
- The average amount of money left by the tooth fairy in 1950 was 25 cents. In 1988 it was $1.00; the going rate now is $2.00.
- Before the 1850s, ‘toothpastes’ were usually powders and contained soap and chalk.
