Welcome, wonderful spring! This year more than most, we feel the acceleration as the long-awaited Easter holidays are coming soon. With that in mind, here is a fun, quick list of simple tips to help keep your teeth clean for the in-between meal times and the times you and your family are on the go.

Add the Colors of Spring To Your Healthy Snacking

Need an energy boost? Choose fun colored fruit, vegetable, seeds, and nuts to your tooth-friendly choices. Examples of great on-the-go snacks are broccoli, carrots, seeds, nuts, or apples.

These foods act as a natural toothbrush because of their grainy texture, scrubbing your teeth as you chew and removing bacteria and plaque. Not only will they help stave off tooth decay but help keep unwanted added pounds off your waistline.

On-the-Go Brushing and Flossing

This tip may be the most obvious, but one of the best ways to prevent tooth decay and dental disease is to brush and floss often! With that being said, we understand that not everyone has the time available to make a trip to the bathroom to brush their teeth after every meal.

If you are on the go, here is an easy, quick tip to brush and floss your teeth even if you do not have toothpaste!

Carry a travel toothbrush with you and when you feel plaque or food on your teeth, pull it out and brush! Even without the added benefits of toothpaste, this will help remove plaque and bacteria sticking to your teeth.

As for flossing tips, many of our patients have invested in those fantastic quick and handy floss picks. Because of their easy-to-use handle, you can use them one-handed and without a mirror. This portable tip will make flossing in between meals much more comfortable and accessible!

Drink Plenty of Water and Chew Sugar-Free Gum

Grab a stick of sugarless gum. The act of chewing increases the saliva flow in your mouth, which washes away food particles and neutralizes the acids. The saliva also promotes remineralization, helping teeth recover from any damage incurred while eating.

Grab a Glass or Bottle of Water. Similar to saliva, water washes away food debris and cleans between teeth. Rinsing your mouth out frequently, especially after eating, is an easy way to bolster your teeths’ defense against cavity-causing bacteria.

Enjoy Bright Smiles For A Lifetime

At Grove Smiles Dentistry in Coconut Grove, FL, we know life gets busy, but by taking care of your teeth throughout the day, not just in the morning and at night, you can ensure that your smile will be happy and healthy for a lifetime.
