Welcome to the New Year’s resolution checklist. Many of us are either going to become super ambitious with our list or stand fast and commit to our new resolutions this year. Do not worry if many are extensions of years past – it is a new year after all. If you have weight loss on that list, read on as we will give you a few more reasons for success this year.
Tip The Scale In Your Favor
Unfortunately, obesity is an issue and an epidemic that is growing steadily due to many reasons including poor eating habits, cost, availability of healthy foods, external chemical pollutants, and other poor health habits adopted by us. When the body is at an unhealthy weight, it not only affects your quantity of quality of life but has another unfortunate side-effect on the health of our teeth and gums.
One of the most common reasons for the link between poor oral health and obesity is the amount of food consumed. Frequent eating, eating late, and consumption of a significant amount of acidic, fatty, and sugary foods are all leading to oral decay and dental issues. Food, especially processed foods, these days also contain a significant amount of sodium. The massive sodium intake can be hazardous to our general health but also increases the chance of us suffering from dry mouths and not drinking enough water to offset this imbalance. To quench this thirst we then most often reach for the sugar-heavy beverages.
The condition of obesity can also lead to further issues such as gum disease, premature tooth loss, and bad breath. With inefficient exercise and over-consumption of calories, our eating a large quantity of food is not guaranteeing that we are eating the proper vitamin rich variety of food that will provide the nutrition that our bodies, teeth, and mouth need to remain optimally healthy.
Take a look at not only the calories you are ingesting but the nutrients those calories hold. If your diet is lacking in calcium and other essential vitamins, your teeth will weaken, leading to many potential dental issues.
